May Yang

ARTIST BIO

May Yang is a Tulsa-based artist, designer, muralist, and business owner. She received her BFA in graphic design and printmaking from the Maryland Institute College of Art. While there, she fell in love with all things printmaking. This led her to attending the Tamarind Institute of Lithography in Albuquerque, earning her Professional Printer’s Certificate in 2010. May’s work tackles cultural contrasts and communication barriers through the use of typographic and calligraphic imagery. Outside of her art, May owns Flash Flood Print Studios, Tulsa’s artist-led, community-driven print shop.

ARTIST PROJECT INFO

Wordplay is a new, bold, and colorful body of work that expands on my word-based abstract compositions. Wordplay will culminate in a gallery exhibition during which I will exhibit five to eight wall-mounted relief paintings and one interactive work that allows visitors to create compositions based on my forms and contribute to a community relief painting that evolves throughout the run of the exhibition. My relief paintings will allow viewers to see new perspectives in a medium that’s traditionally flat.
