ELIZABETH HENLEY
ARTIST BIO
Elizabeth Henley is a painter and multimedia artist from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her art journeys through themes of self exploration and preservation, identity, strength, trauma, and spirituality as they relate to her experience of living in present day Oklahoma. Henley’s desire for inclusion and diversity in art led her to found Black Moon in 2018, an all Black artist collective focused on breaking standards, pushing innovation, and cultivating creativity. Her goal is for Black Moon to be seen as a key resource for artists to reach their artistic goals.
PROJECT INFO
Elizabeth Henley developed two exhibitions, Adorn and The Crown. Both exhibitions, brought to life by local jewelry artists, visual artists, and hair stylists, spoke to women's beauty standards, external and internal value, and quality of life. Adorn was a collaborative show that paired jewelry artists and visual artists to create new and exciting artworks. The Crown reflected on the CROWN Act, a California law that prohibits discrimination based on hair style or texture. Adorn and The Crown uplifted individual dignity and fostered a dialogue of love and self-care.
Event Info: Exhibited at 101 Archer
