DAVID BIZZARO

ARTIST BIO

David Bizzaro is an Emmy award-winning puppeteer, actor, and clothing designer. He has worked with The Jim Henson Company, Sesame Street, The Muppets, and The Flaming Lips. Bizzaro is a first-generation Salvadoran American, and his creative practice is fueled by a desire to honor his roots while pushing boundaries. “I create because I believe in the power of art to bridge gaps, evoke emotions, and inspire change. My process is hands-on, immersive, and rooted in authenticity.”

ARTIST PROJECT INFO

Oklahoma once had a thriving garment industry, including a Wrangler Jeans factory in Guthrie, and a garment factory in Tulsa’s East Village. I seek to rekindle the public memory of, and introduce a new generation to, a time when we were intimately connected to production. Fusing my Indigenous heritage—using natural indigo from El Salvador to hand-dye the yarns—and partnering with fiber artist Natasha Ball, I will weave the yarn into denim, draft garment sewing patterns, and hand-sew the first seed-to-stitch garments made in Tulsa, Oklahoma using 1800s workwear techniques.
